Temporal Lobe: One of the four major subdivisions of each hemisphere of the cerebral cortex. It functions in auditory perception, speech and complex visual perceptions.

Thalamus: A structure consisting of two egg-shaped masses of nerve tissue, each about the size of a walnut, deep within the brain. It is the key relay station for sensory information flowing into the brain, filtering out only information of particular importance from the mass of signals entering the brain.

Theta State: Deeply relaxed state sometimes called the somnambulistic state. In this condition a person may display slurred speech, rigidity of limbs, and amnesia of the experience upon awakening.

Time Distortion: A condition in which time seems to have either sped up or slowed down. This condition is often observed in the hypnotic state.

Trance: A term widely used by Milton Erickson and his followers. The term trance is often used synonymously for hypnosis. A particular state of the nervous system obtained in hypnosis. By extension, every hypnotic state: light trance, medium trance, deep trance, etc.

Trance Logic: The suspension of critical judgment on the part of a hypnotized subject and his or her ability to tolerate the coexistence of logically incompatible phenomena.

Transference: Refers to the tendency of a person to transfer various feelings to the therapist that corresponds to feelings held toward other persons in their life.
